Group B Nights

This festival aimed to introduce the Iranian public to the unique musical traditions of the three countries Iran was drawn to face in the 2018 World Cup; Fado of Portugal, Flamenco of Spain and Gnawa of Morocco. The name “Group B” was intended to transform the World Cup atmosphere of competition into a positive outlook, using world music to underscore beauty, friendship and opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue.

Political issues prevented the Moroccan and Portuguese artists from traveling to Iran at the last minute and Group B was held over two nights and four concerts: one Spanish band, two Iranian southern bands and the highlight concert – Spanish flamenco legend Jose Luis Monton and his trio playing alongside one of Iran’s most celebrated traditional singers, Shahram Nazeri.
